  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

You don’t need to travel far for your next family outing… you’ll be amazed at what’s on offer locally in Logan. We’ve collated the coolest things for families to do in Logan this summer, so gather your family and get active together!

Cycle, skate and walk your way around Logan

Many of us grew up cycling around the neighbourhood with friends, or to and from school, and it’s still a popular recreational activity for kids today. Logan has six named cycle routes, both on and off road, just waiting to be explored. For BMX enthusiasts, Logan has 12 BMX parks in the area, complete with steel ramps, wall rides and banks. There’s also a number of local mountain bike trails for those who want to get off the beaten track.

Try a new sport or discover a new hobby

The upcoming school holidays are the perfect time to try a new sport or hobby, and there are so many to choose from – no one will complain of boredom again! Kids and teens can test out their skills at bubble soccer, participate in a (free!) circus workshop, or challenge themselves with outdoor rock climbing. There’s also a skateboarding workshop (Jan 8) and the not-to-be-missed Wolves of the Street Skateboarding competition (Jan 13). There’s even martial arts and self-defence courses for kids aged between five and 17 years. It’s all part of the Krank school holiday program, and you can find out more here.

Get wet at a local pool, waterway or water park

Logan’s aquatic centres will be the coolest places to hang out this summer and a great spot to meet up with friends to splash, float, swim and play the day away. The waterpark at Darlington Parklands is sure to be a huge hit too, and the perfect location to enjoy a picnic or barbecue while the kids have some water play fun. Logan also has a number of waterways that make a great family outing including the Berrinba Wetlands, which features boardwalks and walking tracks, as well as a playground and picnic area. The Logan River parklands are another cool oasis on a hot summer’s day, with the opportunity for boating and fishing, as well as playing on the river bank or in the playground.

Ensure kids are water safe with Learn to Swim lessons at Aqualogan Laurie Lawrence Swim School at Logan North Aquatic & Fitness Centre. Hold a mermaid or pirate themed birthday party at Springwood Aquatic Centre.

Make music, dance, sing and create

For kids who love all things musical, there’s super cool activities planned for the summer school holidays, including the opportunity to write, record and publish a song; (free!) dance and choreography sessions; the Funky Fitness dance classes; and ukulele music and song classes. And families, don’t forget to take a picnic blanket, glow sticks and your best singing voices along to the Christmas Carols in the Park. This free, annual event is a great way to mark the festive season.

Go green and spend time in nature

Logan has lots of green space to allow your family to connect with nature – there’s bush walking trails, creeks for fishing, reserves for bird watching, community gardens, nature photography groups, a river to kayak on, and nature trails to ride a horse or walk your family dog through. Along with fantastic programs to get you active, there are over 900 parks in Logan, many with shared walking and cycling trails, outdoor fitness equipment, courts and playgrounds.

Logan City Council has also partnered with Nature Play Queensland to present the “Passport to an Amazing Childhood” program which encourages kids to complete nature play missions and record the details of their adventures in a passport. Call into a Logan City Council Customer Service Centre, or your local library, to pick up a passport and a list of the local missions to be completed. Missions include meeting a resident koala at the Daisy Hill Koala Centre, or drawing the blooming wildflowers at Plunkett Conservation Park.

To find out more about how your family can get fit and active this summer, visit the Logan City Council’s website and check out the Step it Up program of events.
