  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Aviation High School Review

Last Updated: July 27, 2016
Aviation High School

Aviation High School is an independent public high school that was established in 2007 to provide direct pathways for students seeking careers in the aviation and aerospace industries in Queensland. The Senior School curriculum at Aviation High School is supported by the School of Excellence in Aerospace and Aviation and provides wonderful opportunities for students. The Aerospace context has now grown to the extent that the School has structured a new faculty, led by a separate Head of Department, to cater for those students who wish to pursue careers in the industry. With the introduction of the National Curriculum, the School is now delivering that same quality education across all Key Learning Areas to students from years 7 to 12 – whatever their aspirations.

Aviation High School Philosophy and Values

“Aviation High School is committed to providing a supportive school environment where all members feel safe and are valued; where social and academic learning outcomes are maximised for all through a quality curriculum, interpersonal relationships and school organisation; where school practices are proactive rather than reactive and where appropriate non discriminatory language and behaviours are defined, modeled and reinforced.”

The school’s vision is ‘Pursue Excellence – Students at Aviation High School pursue academic excellence and social responsibility in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.” (Source: Aviation High School)

Five core values are embedded in every endeavor that the students undertake:

  • Responsibility – Be accountable for your own actions, resolve differences in peaceful ways, and take care of the environment.
  • Integrity – Act with honesty, trustworthiness, loyalty, truthfulness, courtesy, understanding, reliability and ethical behaviour.
  • Respect – Treat self and others with consideration and regard as individuals of worth.
  • Learning – Engage with others to develop knowledge, understanding and skills to maximise academic, social and personal abilities.
  • Passion for Aviation – Students enjoy all learning experiences at Aviation High School, by being positive, committed and willing to embrace challenge and change. (Source: Aviation High School)

Facilities at Aviation High

Aviation High School boasts recently renovated, state of the art facilities to support student-learning outcomes. The campus includes an extensive library, music block, manual arts block, science block, canteen, assembly hall and sporting facilities including sports fields and basketball courts.

In addition to the standard facilities, the School has specialised facilities that include a Mac lab, flight simulators, cabin crew training room, and aircraft hangar.

Aviation High Extra Curricular Activities

Aviation High School implemented the Instrumental Program in 2014, with the formation of a Concert Band and Brass Band. There are two year 8 scholarships available for entry into the Classroom and Instrumental Music Program. The Music Scholarship holder is required to take a lead in the music life of the School and participate fully in curricular musical activities. The Instrumental Scholarship is awarded to students who excel in Instrumental Music studies in Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and a committed member of a school ensemble.

A Classroom Scholarship is awarded to students whose studies in classroom music, are of a VHA standard, and who are dedicated to building a portfolio of composition and performance experience.

Students can also participate in the two clubs at Aviation High School – the UAV Club and Junior Aviation Club. Aviation High participates in the yearly UAV Outback Challenge, with 3 teams of 8 students competing from various year levels across the School. This challenge involves students working in teams to design, build, test and fly various aircraft to participate in the competition. Students gain skills in practical engineering, team work, communication, presenting and time management.

From 2016, Aviation High School is involving the junior School in more aviation related activities through the Junior Aviation Club where, apart from flying small simple aircraft, students also learn about the mechanics and electronics of flying model planes. A remote control flying group has also been established for students with little or no abilities to learn the various skills needed to participate in this hobby.

Enrolment at Aviation High

Parents/caregivers of prospective students for years 7 to 12 are invited to make contact with Aviation High School directly to inquire about enrolment.
