I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Dorrington Park at Ashgrove | Enchanted Forest Playground

Last Updated: August 2, 2022
Dorrington Park, Ashgrove Park

Hidden down a laneway in Ashgrove, the Enchanted Forest at Dorrington Park is an awesome shaded playground for Kids.

Enchanted Forest Playground

Dorrington Park, otherwise known as the Enchanted Forest, is a well-known Ashgrove park and playground. Its leafy location and colourful playground equipment make it an ideal playground for any time of year but surprisingly we find winter is the best time because there aren’t any mosquitos!

There are not many Ashgrove parks that can boast musical toadstools on top of all the regular draw cards like slides, swings, climbing nets and fort-style constructions, but the Enchanted Forest has all of this and more! As far as playgrounds go, this is a small enough park to keep an eye on your kids but big enough to engage them for a fun playdate with friends or an afternoon break from the house.

The Enchanted Forest area also boasts a BBQ, tables and shelter with toilets close by. It is the ideal spot for a picnic or party and is also metres from cafes (including one that serves 100% gluten-free food) to pick up a coffee or some snacks on the way.

This Ashgrove playground is not well signed, so as you turn into Frasers Road, just keep an eye out for a driveway on your left-hand side just before a group of shops.

Dorrington Park extends further than the Enchanted Forest playground, with large playing fields and a clubhouse adjacent. At the other end of the park towards the Stewart Road bridge is more play equipment suited to older children, a large shelter with barbeque, skate plaza and a basketball half-court.

A bike path runs next to the creek along the length of the park and passes under the bridge for safe access under Stewart Road.

Ashgrove Skate Park

Shaded by mature trees, Ashgrove Skate Park is popular with young skaters and scooter riders and it is easy to see why. Catering for all skill levels and all ages, it is the perfect balance between challenge and the enjoyment of an easy ride.

The skate plaza makes it suitable for bladers and BMX as well as skateboards and scooters. While it isn’t a big skatepark in comparison with other popular Brisbane skateparks, it’s central location ensures it is in high demand. It features ledges, rails and kerbs and of course, a quarter-pipe with a decent lead-up.

There is no lighting of the skatepark and so this is one for daylight hours only

Imagination Factor

We especially like the amount of shade and how this results in a ‘fairy garden’ atmosphere. Kids can enjoy playing shops and cafes, making magical music with percussion instruments, or climbing the fantastic spider’s web to escape the baddies. The timber fort is high enough to provide a bird’s eye view.

Accessibility

The Enchanted Forest has wheelchair-accessible toilets and some new paths for wheelchairs and prams. The bike track along the creek is easily accessible and very flat. The playground is partly fenced, keeping your Brisbane Kids well away from the adjacent car park.

Dorrington Park features

  • Playground equipment for a variety of ages over a bark base
  • Partly fenced playground
  • The playground is shaded by trees throughout the day
  • Swings – infant and regular
  • Fort
  • Skate plaza
  • Percussion equipment

This is our favourite park. I have a 5 year old and 2 year old twins. We go here at least once a week even though it’s a bit of a drive. I love that it’s partially fenced. Lots of shade and lots to suit various ages. An awesome coffee shop is next door and enough parking. Bring your mozzie spray as the mozzies tend to come out after it rains.
