I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to do…

Wynnum Whale Park

Last updated: May 1, 2023
Wynnum Whale Water Park

Wynnum Whale Park is a hugely popular sea-side spot for families.  With a large playground, boardwalk, jetty, water play space and even a wading pool nearby – there is enough here to keep a family entertained for hours!

Wynnum Whale Park Waterplay

Possibly the most popular area for young kids at Wynnum Whale Park is the whale pod water spray area.  Build on top of a soft rubber matting to avoid slips and slides, this water-play space features a pod of water-spouting whales that kids can climb on and jump off as streams of water burst up and out of them intermittently.  There is also a large tipping bucket, popular amongst kids as they dash in and out from the cascading water as it fills up and then pours out over the excited children below.  For younger children there is also a small water feature and trail that is perfect for collecting small leaves and watching them race along the different streams and routes.

The whale pod sits alongside a generously spaced nautical-themed playground that features plenty of climbing areas, slides, swings and even a delightful play shop and boat.  This park is also right next to the Wynnum Jetty and Pandanus Beach – a sandy, calm little stretch of water, perfect for young families.  Extending from the playground along the waterfront are marked bike paths and walkways so take the bikes or scooters.  Across the road are two different fish and chip cafes – both perfect options for lunch time take away hot chips or a cool ice-cream after a few hours in the sun.

Further along there is the Wynnum Wading Pool, which is perfect if kids are after a bit more of a swim over just having some light water play in the whale park.

Imagination Factor

The ocean theme of this playground inspires Brisbane Kids to become sea captains and pirates, sailing the seas in search of whales, or digging in the sand for buried treasure. Trying to guess which whale will squirt water next will also keep kids amused. Brisbane Kids from far and wide will adore the masses of soldier crabs scurrying across the beach at low tide!

Acccessiblity

Wheelchair-accessible toilets are located near the playground within the park. There are several shaded places to set up camp for the day around the playground, however, the water park is unsheltered. The small gazebo areas, picnic tables and barbeques are clean and well maintained. Many shops and cafes are within easy walking distance for snacks and supplies. Parking is located near the playground so it’s not too far to walk and the closest bus stop is Pandanas Beach.

What we thought of Wynnum Whale Park

We love Wynnum Whale Park and so do our kids! It’s engaging and wonderful on a warm Brisbane day and easily one of the best playgrounds in Redland City. We recommend checking the Brisbane City Council listing for the playground first, as they often are forced to close the venue for maintenance and it will save a lot of disappointment if you double-check before your visit.

Wynnum Whale Park is located on Wynnum Esplanade, Wynnum.
