Perrin Park at Toowong

Hidden among the trees on a quiet Toowong/Taringa border street, Perrin Park at Toowong is a welcome surprise and the perfect destination for energetic Brisbane Kids. The bike paths, covered picnic tables, BBQs, open spaces and play equipment invite families to stay and play. There are accessible toilets, a fenced dog park and a community garden all within the area.

For our younger Brisbane Kids, the central fort at Perrin Park offers many fun features. There are several ways to climb up towards a striking double-wave slide. The climbing net, rope tunnel, stairs and a wooden bridge provide access to the fort for younger children, while the parallel bars present more of a challenge.

Under the fort is a play shop or café window. Surrounding the fort, a range of delightful sensory play items, like spinning flowers, invite children to make discoveries as they touch, twist, push and pull.

Perrin Park Toowong has some unique climbing structures and an angled climbing net. There are three separate areas to enjoy a swing: two toddler swings, two regular swings and a net swing. There is also a roundabout to spin on while taking in the action.

Older children and teens can test their balance skills on an angled spinning ring or ride their bikes or scooters along the longer path that circles the oval. There is even a bike repair station with tools to help with a quick fix. They can make use of the basketball court and well-equipped outdoor gym which are both positioned close to the playground.

The Pedal-powered monorail (not in operation at the time of review) would also be a fun way for older kids to enjoy their time at the park.

This is not a fenced playground, but if that is what you are looking for, check our Sir John Chandler Park at Indooroopilly, which is fully fenced. 

Imagination Factor

It’s time to get fuelled up for a biking adventure! Under the generous shade sails and surrounding trees, the flat bike paths looping around the playground encourage riders to interact with the road signs, other commuters, and pedestrians as they practise their skills. On their journey, they can stop to fill up at the play petrol pump or grab a bite to eat at the play shop under the fort.

Special Needs

There is ramp access to the playground from Josling street which joins the flat paths that surround the playground and open oval. There is also paved access to the accessible toilets. We would not call this an accessible playground. The closest playground with accessible play features would be the UQ playground at St Lucia which features an adaptive swing.

What we thought of Perrin Park playground

We all enjoyed our visit to Perrin Park playground. The balance between equipment and open areas gave us so many options to burn off some energy in an engaging play session. After a long play, we loved the shaded areas to rest and enjoy our lunch. Following the path over the bridge and into the Taringa Community Garden was a nice change of pace as we explored the plants and searched for our favourite vegetables.
